| The 4 Wives 네 명의 부인 (작자 미상: Author Unknown)
There was a rich merchant who had 4 wives.
He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich
robes and treated her to
delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing
but the best.
네 명의 부인을 거느린 부자 상인이 있었습니다.
그는 네번 째 부인을 제일 사랑해서 그녀를 비싼 옷과 우아함으로
꾸며 주었고 아주 극진히 돌보며 최고로 대우해 주었습니다.
He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He´s very proud of her
and always wanted to
show off her to his friends. However, the merchant is always
in great fear that she might run away with some other men.
그는 또한 세번 째 부인도 매우 사랑했습니다.
그녀를 매우 자랑스럽게 여겼으며 언제나 그의 친구들에게 보
여주고 싶어했습니다.
그러나 그 상인은 항상 그녀가 다른 남자와 달아날까봐 두려워
하고 있었습니다.
He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person,
always patient and in fact is the merchant´s confidante.
Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always
turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him
out and tide him through difficult times.
그는 또한 두번 째 부인도 사랑했습니다.
그녀는 매우 사려가 깊은 사람으로 인내심도 있어서 상인이 모든
비밀을 말할 수 있는사실상 가장 믿을 수 있는 친구였습니다.
상인이 어떤 문제에 부닥 칠 때 마다 , 그는 늘 그 두번 째 부
인에게로 갔고, 그녀는 항상 그가 어려운 시기를 잘 극복할 수
있도록 도와주곤 했습니다.
Now, the merchant´s 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has
made great contributions in maintaining his wealth &
business as well as taking care of the household. However,
the merchant did not love the first wife and although she
loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.
자, 그 상인의 첫번재 부인은 가정 살림과 아울러 그의 건강과
기업을 잘 돌봐주며 그것들을 유지하는데 헌신적인 희생을 하는
매우 충성스런 사람이었습니다.
그러나 그녀가 그를 깊이 사랑함에도 불구하고, 그 상인은 첫번
째 부인을 사랑하지 않았습니다. 그는 그녀의 존재조차 잘 인식
하지 못했죠
One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he
was going to die soon.
He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, ˝Now I
have 4 wives with me.
But when I die, I´ll be alone. How lonely I´ll be!˝
하루는, 그 상인이 병이 들었습니다. 오래 가지 않아서, 그는 곧
죽을 것이라는 사실을 알게 되었습니다. 그는 그의 호화스런
삶을 돌아보며 혼자 말했죠.˝
자, 나는 네명의 부인을 두고 있다. 그러나 내가 죽을 때는 혼자
가 될 것이다...얼마나 외롭겠는가!˝
Thus, he asked the 4th wife, ˝I loved you most, endowed you
with the finest clothing
and showered great care over you. Now that I´m dying, will
you follow me and keep me company?˝ ˝No way!˝ replied the
4th wife and she walked away without another word.
The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant´s
heart.
그래서 그는 네번 째 부인에게 물었습니다. ˝ 당신을 최고로 사
랑했소, 그래서 나는 제일 좋은 옷과 더 없는 사랑으로 당신에
게 부어 주었소, 이제 내가 죽게 되었는데 당신 나를
따라오겠소? 그래서 내 동반자가 되어주겠소?˝ 네번 째 부
인은 ˝당치도 않아요!˝ 라고 대답하며 다른 말도 없이 나가 버
렸습니다.
그 대답은 마치 날카로운 칼로 그 상인의 심장을 끊는 것 같았
습니다.
The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, ˝I have loved you
so much for all my life.
Now that I´m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?˝
˝No!˝ replied the 3rd wife.
˝Life is so good over here! I´m going to remarry when you
die!˝
The merchant´s heart sank and turned cold.
그래서 그 슬픈 상인은 세번 째 부인에게 갔습니다. ˝ 내 일생
동안 당신을 무척 사랑했소,
이제 내가 죽어가고 있는데 당신이 나를 따라올 수 있겠소? 내
동반자가 되어줄 수 있겠소?˝
세번 째 부인은 대답하기를 ˝싫어요, 이 땅의 인생은 얼마나 좋
은데요! 당신이 죽고나면 나는 재혼을 할 거예요˝ 상인의 심장은
무너져 내려 차갑게 되어버렸습니다.
He then asked the 2nd wife, ˝I always turned to you for help
and you´ve always helped
me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you
follow me and keep me company?˝
˝I´m sorry, I can´t help you out this time!˝ replied the 2nd
wife. ˝At the very most,
I can only send you to your grave.˝ The answer came like a
bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.
그래서 그는 두번째 부인에게 물었습니다. ˝나는 언제나 당신에게
도움을 구했고 당신은 나를 늘 도와 주었소, 이제 당신의 도움이
또 필요하오, 내가 죽을 때, 나를 따라와서 내 친구가 되어줄
수 있겠소?˝ ˝미안해요, 이번에는 도와 줄 수가 없군요.˝
두번째 부인이 말했습니다. ˝이번에 진정 내가 할 수 있는 일은,
당신을 무덤으로 보내는 것 뿐이예요˝ 그 대답은 마치 전류가
흐르는 천둥과도 같아서 그 상인을 황폐시켰습니다.
Then a voice called out: ˝I´ll leave with you. I´ll follow
you no matter where you go.˝
The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was
so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition.
Greatly grieved, the merchant said, ˝I should have taken
much better care of you while I could have!˝
그러자, 한 목소리가 외쳤습니다. ˝제가 당신과 함께 가겠어요.
당신이 가는 곳이라면 어디를 막론하고 따라 가겠어요˝ 그 상
인이 고개를 들어 바라보자, 거기엔 그의 첫번째 부인이
있었습니다. 그녀는 마치 영양실조을 앓아 온 듯, 아주 말라 있
었습니다. 상인은 더없는 탄식으로 말했습니다. ˝내가 할 수
있을 때에 당신을 더 잘 돌봐주어야 했었어!˝
Actually, we all have 4 wives in our lives ....... The 4th
wife is our xbody No matter how much time & effort we lavish
in making it look good, it´ll leave us when we die.
Our 3rd wife? Our possessions, status and wealth. When we
die, they all go to others.
The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close
they had been there for us
when we´re alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to
the grave.
사실, 우리 모두 네명의 부인을 우리의 삶에 가지고 있죠. 네번
째 부인은 우리의 몸입니다.
우리가 우리의 몸을 좋게 보이려고 많은 시간과 노력을 아낌없이
투자한다해도, 그것은 우리가 죽을 때는 떠나갈 것입니다. 세번
째 부인은요? 우리의 소유, 신분, 그리고 부귀 입니다.
우리가 죽을 때는 그것들은 보두 다른 사람에게로 갈 것입니다.
두번째 부인은 우리의 가족과 친구들이죠. 우리가 살아있는 동
안에 그들이 우리와 얼마나 가깝게 지냈던지 간에 그들은
우리의 무덤에까지 같이 머무를 수는 없는 것입니다.
The 1st wife is in fact our SOUL, often neglected in our
pursuit of material wealth and sensual pleasure. Guess
what? It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever
we go. Perhaps it´s a good idea to cultivate and strengthen
it now rather than to wait until we´re on our deathbed to
lament.
첫번째 부인은 사실상, 우리가 부와 감각적인 즐거움들을 추구
하느라 제대로 돌보지 않은 우리의 영혼입니다. 알아맞춰 보실
래요? 사실, 그것은 우리가 가는 곳 마다 어디든지 우리를
따라갈 수 있는 유일한 것이란 말입니다. 우리가 우리의 죽음의
자리에서 한탄할 때까지 기다리기 보다는 지금이 우리의 영혼을
돌보고 강하게 기를 수 있는 좋은 때라고 생각하는데요
